Danielle McEwan, Marshall Kent look to defend Team USA Trials titles

2012BWCMarshallKent5_small.jpgOver the past year, Marshall Kent (l.) and Danielle McEwan (r.) traveled the world representing Team USA and Junior Team USA as champions of the 2012 USBC Team USA Trials. The pair said the opportunity allowed them to gain more knowledge and improve their games. That knowledge and skill once again will be put to the test next week when they attempt to successfully defend their titles at the 2013 USBC Team USA Trials.

New Smart Point System and Website Interface for 2013

Participants and providers in SMART, the scholarship management program for youth bowlers, will notice some changes to the program's online portal in 2013. The changes are designed to strengthen the program and enhance functionality. Effective January 2013, recipients will see scholarship awards displayed in their SMART account as points rather than dollars, with one point equal to five dollars. The value of all scholarships remains the same.

Shocker women win LV Invitational to sweep Vegas tournaments

Singapore's Jazreel Tan & Indonesia's Tannya Roumimper earn their sixth spot on the All-Tournament team this season

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe women's bowling team of the Wichita State University completed their time in Vegas with a second win for the trip. The Lady Shockers took home top honors at the 2012 Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 20-21. They won the Collegiate Shoot-out title the day prior to the Las Vegas Invitational. In the championship match, the WSU women came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat 2012 Intercollegiate Team Champion Webber International, 3-1, for the title.

Lynda Barnes, Jason Couch elected to USBC Hall of Fame

The two will join six other inductees, who were elected in November by the USBC Hall of Fame Committee. They are Rick Steelsmith, Shirley Levens, Sandra Postma and Frank Santore in the Outstanding USBC Performance category, Don McCune in the Veterans category and Tamoria Adams for Meritorious Service.

Shockers sweep 26th annual Collegiate Shoot-Out in Las Vegas

201213WSUShockers_small.jpg The men and women of Shocker Bowling (pictured) swept the 26th annual Collegiate Shoot-Out in Las Vegas. The men topped a field of 44 teams while the women bested a field of 17 teams. This is the fourth tournament win of the season for the men and the fifth for the women. Miguel Lopez earned All-Tournament men's team honors while Tannya Roumimper and Jazreel Tan made the women's All-Tournament team.

Competitive senior event schedule continues to grow

USBCLogow_small.jpgThe International Bowling Campus is creating a new event aimed at giving senior bowlers age 60 and older even more competitive opportunities. The ITRC Super Senior Classic will take place Oct. 30-Nov. 1 at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas. In order to be eligible for the event, entrants must be at least 60 years of age by Oct. 30, 2013, and they must have competed in either the 2013 USBC Senior Masters or Senior Queens.

USBC members to bowl for spots on Team USA Jan. 2-7 in Las Vegas

2013TeamUSATrialsLogo_small.jpg Players from across the United States will put their bowling skills to the test Jan. 2-7 when the 2013 USBC Team USA Trials takes place in suburban Las Vegas. The event allows any USBC member the chance to earn a spot on Team USA with spots also available on Junior Team USA. The early entry deadline closes on Dec. 14 with players entering on or before that date paying $350. The Team USA Trials will take place at Sunset Station's Strike Zone Bowling Center in Henderson, Nev.

Stephen Padilla earns USBC Gold-level coaching status

2012USBCGoldCoachStephenPadilla_small.jpgStephen Padilla (pictured) of Mansfield, Texas, has logged more than a decade of experience as a certified bowling coach and recently reached the pinnacle of his field by earning Gold-level coaching status from the USBC Coaching Certification and Development department. Padilla, 36, is a USBC Coaching Specialist at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, and his primary responsibilities are organizing and conducting Silver certification classes.

USBC announces 2011-12 National Sport Bowling, Standard High Average, Series Awards

Brett Wolfe (pictured), who set the USBC Sport Bowling series record in February, showed he was a solid performer throughout the season by capturing the men's 2011-12 USBC Sport Bowling National High Average Award. Wolfe, a 36-year-old left-hander from Gilbert, Ariz., averaged 230 over 78 games in the East Valley Open League at Brunswick Mesa Lanes in Mesa, Ariz., including a Sport-record 886 series on Feb. 6. The league was using the 2011 USBC Open Championships lane condition.

Growth sparks changes to North Pointe Junior Gold Championships

2013NPJGCLogo_small.jpg The North Pointe Junior Gold Championships has experienced tremendous growth, especially with the addition of the U15 division, and the expected progression has resulted in several changes for the 2013 event in Detroit. More than 1,900 youth bowlers took part in the 2012 event, establishing a record for number of participants, and the 2013 tournament is expected to eclipse that mark. To handle the larger field, three additional centers in the Detroit area will be utilized.

World Tenpin Bowling Association partners with USBC to study new specifications

In an effort to determine new lines of specifications at the sport of bowling's elite level, the United States Bowling Congress will join with the World Tenpin Bowling Association to look at factors that influence scoring. A background study and hypothesis testing will begin immediately, with lab and field testing beginning next year.

Team USA taking resumes for 2013 selections

TeamUSALogo_small.jpg The Team USA program is currently accepting bowling resumes from athletes eligible for selection onto Team USA for 2013. The players eligible for selection include Team USA members since from the past 10 years and exempt players on the 2011-12 Professional Bowlers Association Tour season. The top three men and top three women at the Team USA Trials, which will be held at Sunset Station from Jan. 2-7 in Henderson, Nev., will earn automatic spots.

Wichita State Shockers sweep Leatherneck Classic

The Wichita State University's Shocker men's and women's bowling teams brought home another victory for the season after sweeping the first place titles at the Leatherneck Classic. The Shocker men swept top qualifier Robert Morris College – Illinois in the title match with a 2-0 win, while the women came out on top with a 2-0 win over Ashford University. This tournament win marks the third win of the season for each of the men's and women's teams.

Six new members elected to USBC Hall of Fame

USBCHallofFameLogo_small.jpg The United States Bowling Congress Hall of Fame Committee has elected six new members to the USBC Hall of Fame - four in Outstanding USBC Performance, one in the Veterans category and one in Meritorious Service. The induction ceremony will take place May 2 at the 2013 USBC Convention in Reno, Nev., and will include those elected from the national Superior Performance ballots.

110th USBC Open Championships will feature two lane conditions

2013USBCOCLogo_small.jpg For the first time in 110 years of tournament history, the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships will feature two lane conditions - one oil pattern for team competition and another for doubles and singles. A new daily schedule will be introduced at the 2013 event to allow for the lanes to be oiled before every squad. The change creates the opportunity to use two different lane conditions.

WSU Shockers sweep Jayhawk Collegiate Classic titles

Sweden's Berndt, Singapore's Tan and Ukrainian Kovalova earn All-Tournament Team honors

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Wichita State University's Shocker men's and women's bowling teams dominate their fields to earn top honors this weekend at the second annual Jayhawk Collegiate Classic tournament in Lawrence, Kan. This was the third tournament of the season for the Shockers. Three men (Devin Bidwell, Marcus Berndt and Blake Demore) and three women (Jazreel Tan, Allie Ijams and Dasha Kovalova) earned All-Tournament Team honors for their efforts during the competition.

New directors Robert Spigner and Erik Galganski join USBC board

USBCLogow_small.jpgRobert Spigner of Chicago and Erik Galganski of Orlando, Fla., have joined the USBC Board of Directors effective immediately. Spigner was appointed by USBC President Andrew Cain to replace Bill Vint of East Troy, Wis., as a delegate representative. Galganski was selected by the USBC Youth Committee to replace Suzanne Huebel of Oscoda, Mich., as a youth committee representative. Vint and Huebel stepped down from the board for unrelated reasons last month.

Four leading entities in bowling join forces to host both events side-by-side

Hosted in the great bowling city of Columbus, Ohio, from July 21 to July 27, the entire bowling industry will be facilitating the men's and women's competitions side-by-side.

2012USBCSQDanaMillerMackie_small.jpgUSBC Hall of Famer Anne Marie Duggan (l.) of Edmond, Okla., defeated fellow hall of famer Dana Miller-Mackie (r.) of Albuquerque, N.M., on Tuesday to win the 2012 USBC Senior Queens presented by Storm. Duggan, who turned 50 last month, defeated Miller-Mackie, 199-173, at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas, to claim the title. The event featured a field of 56 of the top senior women bowlers in the country.

Dana Miller-Mackie top seed for stepladder finals at USBC Senior Queens

Miller-Mackie defeated 2010 Senior Queens champion Char Hammel (r.) of Las Vegas, 605-597, to earn the top seed. Hammel will be seeded second, while Anne Marie Duggan of Edmond, Okla., and Tish Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., will be the third and fourth seed, respectively.
