Presidium releases General Rules for all ranking events

The American Zone, which was divided in three ranking zones last year, will be divided in five regions for the 2006 rankings.

The Northern Region consists of only two countries, Canada and United States of America.

Mexico, which belonged to the Northern Region in 2005 is a member of the Central American Region together with Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

The Caribbean countries U,S, Virgen Islands, Bahamas, Bermuda, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Aruba, the Netherlands Antilles, formerly in the Central region, got their own Caribbean Region.

The Southern region was divided in two parts; Southern Region 1 with Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú and Southern Region 2 featuring Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Bolivia.


2006 General Rules at a glance:

- The the President of the American Zone will appoint a General Coordinator and five Regional Coordinators.

- 2006 American Zone ranking events will mainly consist of national championships, official championships, events of the Olympic Cycle and special tournaments.

- All ranking events must finish at the latest November 30th of the current year.

- To be eligible for the 2006 American Zone Ranking Finals, players must participate in minimum three (3) ranking events including the National Championships/Event.

- Only the ranking points received in the National Championship/Event and two best results of the other ranking events will count.

- Players can earn ranking points in any of the five regions.

- The 2006 American Zone Ranking Finals, to be held at the latest on February 15 of 2007, will consist of maximum 60 men and 60 women, maximum 12 men and 12 women from each Region.

- The Organizers or owners of all Invitational Ranking Tournaments must charge either all participants with a ranking fee from 5 to 10 US Dollars or just those players who want to earn ranking points with US $25.00.

- The 2006 American Zone Ranking Finals will have a minimum total prize fund of US$12000.

- Only the President of the American Zone has the right to publish the official ranking results.

- In case of misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the English and Spanish version of the General Rules, the Spanish version will prevail.

- The new General Rules are effective as of January 24, 2006.
