France comes up strong to win gold medal in Girls Trios

Marie Gauton, Amandine Jacques and Charline Boiteux came up strong in the second three-game block to capture the first gold medal for France in the Girls Trios at the 19th European Youth Championships in Denmark. Starting the day in sixth place, the French girls posted the sole 1800-plus score (200 average) with 1827 to leap five spots and win the title with 3515, six-game total and an overall average of 195,28.
Daniëlle van der Meer, Lisanne Breeschoten and Stephanie Huiden of the Netherlands combined for a solid 1747-series after 1757 yesterday and maintained the second place to earn the silver medal with 3504 (194,67).
Overnight leader Germany could not match the pace from yesterday, when Laura Nolden, Mandy Büch and Tina Hulsch shot an 1800-set. The trio averaged 178,78 over the second block and felled 1609 pins to fall two spots to third place to secure the bronze medal with 3409 (189,39).
Marie Gauton rolled the highest individual six-game series of 1280, an average of 213,33, to overtake the lead in All Events with 2523 (210,25). Stephanie Huiden, Netherlands, moved up one spot into second place with 2479. Doubles champion Hayley White of England, who led the field of 91 girls from 20 countries after six games, slipped to third with 2452.
Competition continues on Friday and Saturday with the Team event. The top 24 players in All Events (18 games) will advance to the Masters finals on Saturday and Sunday. The top 8 players earn a bye for the first round of single elimination best-of-three games match play.
