Thomas Gross defeats Paul Moor to win BNC Bratislava Open

Mortensen, Backe achieve perfection in Final Round 3; Dulce Fernandez wins Women Ranking

In the championship match over two games total pinfall, Gross held a comfortable 45-pin lead after the first game (248- 203) and cruised to victory with a 214-193 in game #2 and 462-396 overall.

Gross received 5.000 Euro and 100 ranking points for his fourth career EBT title. Moor earned 3.000 Euro and 80 ranking points for second place.

Moor eliminated No. 1 seed and current EBT ranking leader, Dominic Barrett (above right), England, in the Round of 8, 505-405 including a 279 game.

Gross ousted No. 2 seed and 3-time defending EBT ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, 452-438.

In the semis, Moor eliminated another compatriot, No. 3 seeded Stuart Williams (left), 439-430, while Gross held off former world champion Patrick Backe (right), Sweden, 398-362. Williams and Backe earned 1.600 Euro each for third and fourth place, respectively.

Dulce Fernandez (right), Spain, was the only woman, who advanced to the Round of 16 en route to win the women's ranking in Bratislava, worth 100 ranking points.

The BNC Bratislava Open is a newcomer on the European Bowling Tour and will be held from Aug. 23-29, 2010 at BNC Bowling Center, a 16-laner in Bratislava, Slovakia. The tournament offers total prize fund of 40.000 Euro with 5.000 Euro going to the winner. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour

2010BratislavaOpenLogo.jpgThe tournament is the 13th stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Silver" tournaments. 100 ranking points are on the line for the winner of the men's and women's rankings in Bratislava, respectively.

Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

A total of 64 players advanced to the finals on Sunday: The top 48 players from the overall qualifying standings, plus the top 4 from a separate leaderboard of the Squads on Wednesday, Tuesday and Monday, who are not among the top 48. The last four spots were reserved for the top 4 of the Desperado Squad.

The top 16 qualifiers earned two byes, while players seeded 17-32 bypassed the first round of the finals.

The remaining 32 players bowled 3 games starting from scratch with the top 16 advancing to the second round. The second and third round was played in the same format. The 16 players, who advanced to the fourth round carried forward the pinfall total from Round 3 and bowled another 3-game block to cut to the top 8 for single-elimination match play.

Match play consisted of two games, with the total pinfall to determine the winner. The field was trimmed to 4 then two players who bowled for the title and the 5.000 Euro top prize.

Match play consists of two games, with the total pinfall to determine the winner.

The top 16 of Round Three bowl three games with the pinfall from Round Three being carried forward. The top 8 advance to single-elimination match play. Places 9-16 eliminated, earn 700 Euro.

Qualifiers 1-16 and the top 16 of Round Two bowl three games from scratch. The top 16 advance to the fourth round. Places 17-32 eliminated, earn 500 Euro.

 

 

Final Round Two


Qualifiers 17-32 and the top 16 of Round One bowl three games from scratch. The top 16 advance to the third round. Places 17-32 eliminated, finish 33rd through 48th, earn 400 Euro.

Qualifiers 33-64 bowl three games from scratch. The top 16 advance to the second round. Places 17-32 eliminated, finish 49th through 64th, earn 300 Euro.
