Flack, Barrett widen their lead in 2010 European Bowling Tour rankings

2010 European Bowling Rankings

Finish 1, 2 in the women's and men's rankings in Barcelona

2010EBT08NinaFlack.jpg2010EBT11NicoleSanders.jpgEuropean Bowling Tour women's and men's ranking leader, Nina Flack (pictured left), Sweden, and Dominic Barrett, England, widened their lead after finishing the ranking in the 32nd Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona in first and second place.

Flack was the best of 37 women in Barcelona in sixth place and earned 150 ranking points to widen her lead from 18 to 129 points. The next four places belong to Dutch bowlers.

Nicole Sanders (right), who won the women's rankings in San Marino the week before Barcelona, lost some ground after failing to advance from the qualifying. Sanders is second with 473 points.

Places 6 and 7 belong to Swedes Rebecka Larsen Jr. (400) and Joline Persson Planefors (391). Germany's Tina Hulsch, Germany, did not compete in Barcelona and slipped to 8th place with 353.

2009 ranking champion Nicki Ainge, England, finished second to Flack, and 9th overall to leap into 9th place with 348 points. Rounding out the top 10 is Lisanne Breeschoten, Netherlands, with 333.

Second place Mika Koivuniemi and third place Osku Palermaa, both Finland, went out in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively. Koivuniemi is a distant second with 627 and Palermaa, the 3-time defending ranking champion, is third with 621.

Verbruggen, who has won the EBT rankings in the Tour's first four years from 2000 thru 2003, narrowed the gap to the top 3 but remained in 4th place with 546 points.

There's a bigger gap between fifth and sixth place. Dennis Eklund, Sweden, is sixth with 322, 142 points behind Thomas Larsen, Denmark, in fifth with 464. The only other EBT men's ranking champion besides Palermaa and Verbruggen, 3-time champion Paul Moor, England (2000-'04), is 7ht with 319.

Rounding out the top 10 is a trio from Sweden, Mathias Årup (302), Tomas Leandersson (290) and Peter Ljung (261).

2010EBTLogo_small.jpg Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the 32nd Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament gets 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each tournament of the 2010 European Bowling Tour will cash ranking points no matter from which country or World Tenpin Bowling Association Zone (Europe, Asia, America) he or she comes.

The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2010 EBT season will qualify for the 2011 EBT Masters to be held at Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 11-12, 2011.

The European Bowling Tour takes a 5-week break until the Men's World Championships are over and will resume with the BNC Bratislava Open, a newcomer on the EBT Tour, which will be held at BNC Bowling Center in Bratislava, Slovakia, from Aug. 23-29, 2010.
