Dennis Eklund rises to the top at 6th Storm San Marino Open

Dominic Barrett shoots the tournament's first 300 game

The Swedish national team member, who won the second stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour, the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament, in February, started his six-game series with 279 and added 236, 244, 245, 232 and 226 to overtake the pole position in the qualifying with 1462 or an average of 243.67.

2010EBT11MikaKoivuniemi.jpg2010EBT11PriscillaMaaswinkel.jpgBarrett topped Eklund's 279 by 21 pins as the European Bowling Tour ranking leader and two-time champion in 2010 (4th International Wroclaw Open by Hammer; Bowltech Aalborg International 2010) fired the tournament's first 300 game. Barrett closed out his set with 206, 213, 253, 194 and 225 for 1391 (231.83), good for 7th place in the overall qualifying standings.

3-time defending EBT ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland (2007-'09), slipped to second place with 1453, with 3-time EBT ranking champion Paul Moor, England (2004-'06) in third and 4-time EBT ranking champion Gery Verbruggen, Belgium (2000-'03) in fourth at 1421 and 1417, respectively.

Sixth place belongs to Dietmar Krämer, Germany, with 1396. Priscilla Maaswinkel (above right), Netherlands, is the top-ranked female bowler in 8th place with 1368 including 48 pins handicap. Fellow Dutch national team member, Lisanne Breeschoten (left) led Squad 15 with 1340 to move into the top 12 in 11th place.

Javier Rosado (right), Spain, concluded the penultimate qualifying day with victory in Squad 18. Rosado used high games of 238 and 242 for 1299 (216.50) to leap into 27th place overall. With the final four qualifying squads to go, Luca Osella, Italy, is the "man on the bubble" in 38th place with 1281 or an average of 213.50. Qualifying will end on Saturday nigh with the one-game Desperado Squad.

Women receive 8 pins handicap each game. a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour

The tournament is the 11th stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Gold" tournaments. Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

2009EBT08PaulMoor2.jpg2009EBT08GeryVerbruggen.jpg In the 2009 title match between two European ranking champions, 3.-time winner Paul Moor (left, 2004-06), England, defeated 4-time winner Gery Verbruggen (right, 2000-03), Belgium, 425-395, over two games total pinfall. Amanda Fagan, United States, was the top-ranked woman in 27th place and won the women's rankings.

A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 3-4, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 5-7 and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers will earn two byes, while qualifiers 7-12 will get one.

The other 36 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 18, who will meet qualifiers 7-12 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 10, who will join the top six qualifiers in single-elimination match play with the two game total pinfall determining the winner.

The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.
