Sweden defends Girls Doubles title at 23rd European Youth Championships

Elin Adolfsson repeats her 2009 win with Jenny Wegner

2010EYCLogo.jpg Elin Adolfsson, who won the 2009 European Youth Championships Girls Doubles gold medal with Isabell Hultin teamed with Jenny Wegner to defend the title Tuesday evening at Plaza Bowling in St. Maximin, France.

The Swedes, who earned the No. 3 seed after the six-game preliminaries, ousted second seeded Russians Kristina Ushakova and Alena Korobkova in the semifinals, 420-396, and advanced to the title match against top seeded Autum Chamberlain and Kirsten Macgregor, England.

The English girls, who were the better of two teams with a 200-plus average in the preliminaries (203.83 to Russia's 201.58), managed only a 357 game in the title match and the Swedes cruised to victory with a solid 386 game.

In the semifinals, Chamberlain/Macgregor flew past Shahaf Antin and Danit Bachar, Israel, 401-314.

Chamberlain/Macgregor received the silver medal while Ushakova/Korobkova and Antin/Bachar shared the bronze medal.
