Red Carpet Lanes takes a 522-pin lead in Regular Team All-Events

2010USBCOCRedCarpetLanes.jpgThe members of Linds Limited of Milwaukee may not be in position to defend their Team All-Events crown, but the eagles might not land far from home if their companion team, Red Carpet Lanes (pictured left) of Greenfield, Wis., can hold on to win the title at this year's United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

After moving into second place in Regular Team with a 3,250 total Sunday night, Red Carpet Lanes returned to the National Bowling Stadium and averaged nearly 230 as a team to take the Team All-Events lead with 10,131 on Monday. Turbo 2-N-1 Grips 1 of Madison, Wis., previously held the lead with 9,609.

Chad Maas of Brookfield, Wis., led the way for Red Carpet Lanes with a 2,141 all-events effort, which is good for second place in Regular All-Events behind Terrence Syring of Bay City, Mich., who leads with 2,155. Syring leads Regular Singles as well with 833.

Maas also moved into second place in Regular Doubles with two-time USBC Open Championships titlist Jeff Nimke of Oshkosh, Wis. Maas contributed a 741 series, while Nimke added 739 for a 1,480 total. Tom Milton of St. Petersburg, Fla., and David Taylor of Seminole, Fla., lead with 1,498.

"I couldn't be happier with the guys tonight," said Maas, a 10-time USBC Open Championships participant who earned the Classic Singles title at the 2008 USBC/Storm Bowlers Journal Championships with a record score of 1,045.

"We all bowled great, we didn't get down on ourselves and we stayed focused on the task at hand, which was to beat 9,600 and put up a score that's unobtainable. Nothing's for sure, but I like where we are sitting right now. It's a big number, and we'll take our chances."

The 31-year-old right-hander added 723 in singles and 677 in team to help Red Carpet Lanes to the eighth-highest Team All-Events score in tournament history. Nimke chipped in with a 2,064 all-events total and was followed by Dave Beres (2,040), two-time champion Steve Brinkman (1,978) and Scott Helm (1,908). The Team All-Events record is 10,425 by Pollard's Bowl of Versailles, Ind., at the 1996 event in Salt Lake City.

Maas and his teammates have bowled alongside Linds Limited for nearly a decade and have learned how to succeed on the tournament lanes.

2010USBCOCLindsLimited.jpgAlthough Linds Limited (right) was unable to defend its Regular Team or Team All-Events title this year, the group made a valiant effort. After shooting 3,004 in team, the experienced players tossed a flurry of strikes during doubles and singles and moved into fifth place in Team All-Events with 9,598.

Four-time titlist and reigning USBC Senior Masters champion Dale Traber led the way for Linds Limited with 1,962 and was joined by four-time champion Gus Yannaras (1,961), three-time winner Ryan Lever (1,901), 10 and 20-year average leader and four-time titlist Lennie Boresch Jr. (1,889) and six-time champion Gary Daroszewski (1,885).

All together, the group has combined for 20 titles in 146 years of Open Championships experience, and even though there won't be any additional wins this year, they are ready to celebrate with their companion team members, should they hold on to win.

"They've watched us celebrate over the years, and now it's their turn," said Yannaras, who made his 26th Open Championships appearance. "It's well deserved. They bowled great. They came out for singles and doubles, stayed sharp and focused and made great shots. It's evident by the numbers."

2010TeamUSATrialsJohnJanawicz_small.jpgAs the defending champions, Linds Limited was treated to a special introduction and escorted march before they put its Regular Team title on the line Sunday night.

The entire ceremony and all three games of competition were broadcast live through BOWL.com, and nearly 8,000 viewers tuned in to see the action. The next live streaming broadcast from the Open Championships will take place on the afternoon of April 8 when 2004 Regular Singles and All-Events champion John Janawicz (left) of Winter Haven, Fla., takes to the lanes.

"This is great, especially with the USBC putting on our intro, which was pretty special," Yannaras said. "I guess our sister team liked it so much that they wanted to put up a number that would get them a walkout next year. Not only are they great competitors, they're friends of ours. Now, it's time to pass the torch to them."
