Nina Flack overtakes lead in 2010 European Bowling Tour women's ranking
03/16/10
2008 European Bowling Tour women's ranking champion Nina Flack (pictured left), Sweden, waited until the 23rd and last qualifying squad before she qualified for the finals of the Brunswick Euro Challenge. Flack went on to win the women's ranking in the EBT "Gold" tournament en route to overtake the lead in the 2010 European Bowling Tour women's ranking.
Gold is the second-highest of the four EBT tournament categories. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the Brunswick Euro Challenge gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament gets 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
Flack, a World and European champion, has 320 ranking points to overtake previous leader Cherie Tan (right), Singapore, who slipped to second place with 250 points. Tina Hulsch, Germany, narrowed the gap to 2 points to sit in third place with 248.
After making three consecutive championship rounds on the EBT, Dominic Barrett (left), England, missed the first cut (1407 for 52nd place, 234.50 avg.) in the high-scoring Brunswick Euro Challenge and didn't cash any points for the first time in the 2010 season. However, Barrett remained atop the men's ranking leaderboard with 325 points.
PBA champions Mika Koivuniemi (right), Finland, and Parker Bohn III, United States, who both competed in the BEC, earned 18 and 60 ranking points to sit in second and third place 268 and 260, respectively.
Three-time defending EBT ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, had a chance to overtake Barrett by two pins with a victory in France but went out in the Round of 8 to remain in fourth place with 249 points.
Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 19 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 7 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each of the 19 tournaments of the 2010 European Bowling Tour will cash ranking points no matter from which country or WTBA Zone (Europe, Asia, America) he or she comes.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2010 EBT season will qualify for the 2011 EBT Masters to be held at Gladiator Arena in Ljubljana, Slovenia, April 11-12, 2011.
The European Bowling Tour continues with the Ebonite International Luxembourg Open, the second EBT "Satellite" event this season. The tournament will be held March 16-21, 2010 at X-Treme Bowling & Billard in Foetz, Luxembourg.
