Singaporean girls set three Championship records on their way to the Doubles gold

Misaki Mukotani rolls he third 300 game of the 15th Asian Youth Championships

2010AsYCBerniceLimNewHuiFen.jpgBernice Lim and New Hui Fen (l-r) from Singapore set three records over one, three and six games en route to win the gold medal in Girls Doubles in the 15th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships Thursday at Cozmo Bowling Center in Salmiya City, Kuwait.

The duo started their six games on the long oil pattern with three consecutive games over 500 (250 avg.) which all broke the previous record of 485 set by Australia in 2007. The second game was the highest with 555.

Lim had games of 244, 289 and 279 for 812 (270.66), the highest 3-game series of the day. Fen had back-to-back 266 games and added 248 for 780 (260.00) and a 3-game record series of 1592 (265.33).

The duo led by 290 pins as the 15 doubles had reached the halfway point. The Singaporeans closed out the event with games of 426 453 and 418 to cruise to victory with record 2889pinfall total and an average of 240.75.

Bernice Lim had the field-best 1455 individual series (242.50) with New Hui Fen close behind in second place with 1434 (239.00).

The Malaysians were mere three pins behind to take bronze with 2587 (215.58).

Singles silver and bronze medalists, Misaki Mukotani and Rina Asada from Japan, finished their set with a huge 546 game to jump into 4th place with 2549. Mukotani rolled the third 300 game of the Championships and second by a girl following in the footprints of Asada, who accomplished the feat in Singles.

The second Malaysian duo, Hee Kar Yen and Jacqueline J Sijore, finished 5th with 2535, while the second Korean team featuring Singles gold medalist Baek Seung Ja and team mate Lee Yeon Ji landed in 6th place with 2513.

31 girls from 8 countries - Australia, China, DPR Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore - will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, 4-player Team, All Events and Masters.
