Remy Ong leads top 8 into Final Round 4 in 9th Qatar International Open

Two-time World champion and 3-time Asian Games winner Remy Ong (pictured left), Singapore, averaged 228.33 and felled 1370 pins in Final Round 3 Saturday at Qatar Bowling Center in Doha to lead the top 8 players into the fourth round in the 9th Qatar International Open.
The lefty had games of 225, 188, 248, 258, 246 and 205 and holds a 91-pin cushion over fifth place as the pinfall will be carried forward to the next six-game round. Ong finished 35 pins ahead of the sole remaining woman. Britt Brøndsted (right), Denmark. The 3-time European Bowling Tour ranking champion felled 1287 pins and added 48 pins handicap, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour, for 1335 total.

Brøndsted, who earned two byes by finishing among the top 6 in qualifying, was one of five Europeans, who survived the third cut.
She was sandwiched between the two Asians, who made it to the fourth round, as Aussie Andrew Frawley (left) landed in third place with 1307.
Placed 4-7 belonged to Europeans. Qualifying leader Martin Larsen (right) was fourth with 1286 and was followed by team mate Peter Ljung (below left), both Sweden, in fifth place with 1279.

Sixth place belonged to Dominic Barrett (right), England, with 1274, with Mads Sandbækken (below left), Norway, in seventh place with 1264. If Barrett will not finish lower than second place he will overtake Osku Palermaa from Finland to win the 2009 EBT men's rankings.
Third-seeded Naif Oqab (below right) beat out his second-seeded compatriot Hussain Al-Suwaidi and Dane Paul Hutchinson for the 8th and final spot to advance by 13 pins, 1255 to 1242.
The 9th Qatar Open is the 15th and final event on the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Major's". The EBT has announced that the 2010 edition will be upgraded to "Platinum", the highest status of the Tour besides Gold, Silver and Satellite.

A total of 48 players - the top 38 qualifiers and the top 3 each from Dec. 12 and 13 squads plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad - advanced to the finals on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 18-19, 2009.
The top 6 qualifiers bypassed the first two rounds, while places 7-12 received one bye. The other 36 players bowled six games from scratch to cut to the top 18. Those 18 plus qualifiers 7-12 also bowled six games from scratch in Round 2 and cut to the top 10, who joined the top six qualifiers in Round 3 on Saturday.
Those 16 bowled six games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who will bowl another six games with the pinfall from Round 3 being carried forward. The top 4 will advance to the championship round. All matches over two games total pinfall.
No. 1 bowls No. 4 and No. 2 meets No. 3. The winners will advance to the championship match to bowl for the title and the 30.000 Euro top prize (approx. 43,865 U.S. Dollar). The runner-up will be consoled with 15.000 Euro.
