2009SSSTMalmoTop4.jpg Swedish international Helén Johnsson made history when she defeated Norwegian standout Tore Torgersen, 255-204, in the title match of the Swedish Super Six Tour event at the Baltic Bowling Center in Malmö.

It was the second Super Six victory for Johnsson making her the first woman to win twice on the Swedish Super Six Tour. Her first victory came in VÃ¥rby in April 2008.

"I consider this one of my biggest wins, especially considering the tough lane condition in the tournament", Johnsson told Hans Karlsson, press officer off the Swedish Bowling Federation.

It was one of the lowest scoring tournaments ever on the Super Six Tour which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The first tournament was played in August in 1999.

The PBA Chameleon lane pattern was a demanding test for the 265 participants who needed just 1252 (208.7 average) to make the cut to the top 30 finalists.

When the dust had settled after 12 games on the final day, the four stepladder finalists were No. 1 Torgersen, No. 2 Dennis Eklund, No. 3 Rebecka Larsen Jr., both Sweden, and No. 4 Johnsson.

Johnsson had to win three consecutive matches to claim the title and the 40.000 Swedish Kronor top prize (approx. $5,640) and that was exactly what she did. "Sometimes it is an advantage as you warm up and get used to the lanes", said Johnsson.

She started with a 213-199 victory over Larsen and went on to defeat Swedish national team member Eklund in a low-scoring affair by three pins, 179-176, to set up the title match against top seeded Torgersen.

"I didn't play well against Dennis and then decided to change to a duller surface ball. It was a good decision. My confidence grew with each strike," Johnsson confessed, who opened the title match with a six-bagger and never looked back.

Torgersen, a former World and European champion, who was a PBA exempt player for two years, had to settle for second place. It was his third top 4 finish during 2009 behind a fourth and third place earlier in the SSST season.

The 2009 SSST finals will be held on Jan.6, 2010 in connection with the first stop of the 2010 Tour, the AIK International in Stockholm.

According to the 2009 ranking, the following six players are qualified for the final: 1. Tomas Leandersson, 2. Martin Larsen, 3. Dennis Eklund, 4. Tore Torgersen, 5. Helén Johnsson and 6. Raymond Jansson.

The six finalists for the final of the VBS Ladies Tour are: 1. Helén Johnsson, 2. Gärda Lind, 3. Malin Glendert, 4. Nina Flack, 5. Victoria Johansson and 6. Rebecka Larsen Jr.
