Ron Mohr leads first-round qualifying in PBA Senior Dick Weber Open

Ron Mohr (pictured left), who won the first two Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour events of the 2009 season, topped the field of 101 players after first-round qualifying Sunday in the PBA Senior Dick Weber Open at Royal Scot Golf & Bowl.
Mohr, of Eagle River, Alaska, had a 1,894 pinfall (236.7 average) with games of 258, 193, 257, 195, 232, 260, 243 and 256. Rounding out the top five were Rick Minier, Cypress, Texas, 1,852; Dale Csuhta, Wadsworth, Ohio, 1,780; Bobby Johnson, Chillicothe, Ohio, 1,743 and Hall of Famer Mark Williams (right), Beaumont, Texas, 1,730.
"That's probably the best block I've bowled all year," Mohr said. "I had a couple 190 games but even in those games I was throwing the ball well. It didn't seem like I ever missed the pocket."
The entire field will bowl another eight-game qualifying round on Monday after which the field will be cut to the top one-third who will advance to another eight-game qualifying round Tuesday morning.
The field will then be cut to the top 24 for round-robin match Tuesday evening. Match play continues on Wednesday to determine the top five for the stepladder finals scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
