2008ViennaOpenLogo_small.jpg The 6th annual Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 14th stop of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors". The tournament will be held from Sep. 30 - Oct. 5, 2008 at 32-laner Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

The Vienna Open offers a total prize fund of 65.630 Euro - 55.400 € for Singles and 10.230 € for the Doubles event. The singles champion will receive the 6.000 € top prize while the doubles winners will split 1.600 €.

A 9-pin No-Top tournament on Monday evening will kick off the five-day qualifying portion with free entries into the Vienna Open at stake. Players will be divided in four different average groups, but only players with less than 200 average are allowed to enter the no-tap tournament.

After the online registration was closed, 293 players - 242 men and 51 women from 28 countries were registered for the event. All of the spots on Friday and Saturday are fully booked, but there are still some spots available from Tuesday through Thursday.

Record 312 players - 240 men and 72 women - from 24 countries participated in last year's Vienna Open. Swede Dennis Eklund defeated Yoan Alix, France, 235-199, en route to win his first EBT title. Tina Hulsch, Germany, won the women's rankings.

Tournament Format


Qualifiying
6 games Doubles which is counting as qualification for the Singles event

Desperado Squad
1 game

64 players will qualify for the final steps.
8 players will qualify directly for the final step 2, which are the players positioned 1-8 in the qualification standing.
56 players will qualify for the final step 1:
- Players positioned 9-52 in the qualification standing
- The winners of Squad 1-6 (extra bonus for early entries)
- Players positioned 1-6 in the Desperado Squad.
In the case that players from Squad 1-6 qualified for the final steps through positions 1-56 in the qualification standing, the next positioned player in the respective squad will qualify.

Final step 1
The 60 players qualified for the final step 1 will bowl 6 games starting from scratch. Top 24 will qualify for the final step 2. The players, who missed the cut, will be ranked 33rd-68th according to their positions in the standing of the final step 1.

Seeding for the final step 2-6
Players positioned 1-8 in the qualification standing will be seeded 1st-8th.
Players qualified from the final step 1 will be seeded 9th-32nd according to their positions in the standing of the final step 1.

Matching in the final step 2-6
All matches will be combined as the highest seeded player vs. the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player vs. the second lowest seeded player etc.

Final step 2
There will be 16 matches, best of 3 games.
The winners of the matches will qualify for the final step 3.
The losers of the matches will be ranked 17th-32nd according to their seeding.

Final step 3
There will be 8 matches, best of 3 games.
The winners of the matches will qualify for the final step 4.
The losers of the matches will be ranked 9th-16th according to their seeding.

Final step 4
There will be 4 matches, best of 3 games.
The winners of the matches will qualify for the final step 5.
The losers of the matches will be ranked 5th-8th according to their seeding.

Final step 5
There will be 2 matches over one game.
The winners of the matches will qualify for the final step 6.
The losers of the matches will be ranked 3rd and 4th according to their seeding.

Final step 6
There will be 1 match over one game.
The loser of the match will be ranked 2nd.
The winner of the match will be ranked 1st.


Tie Rules


Qualification and the final step 1
In case of a tie in the qualification or in the final step 1, the highest ranked player will be the player with the highest last game. If a tie still exists, the highest ranked player will be the player with the highest second last game, then the player with the highest third last game etc.

Desperado Squad
In case of tie in the desperado squad, the highest positioned player will be the player with the highest position after the qualification.

Final Step 2-6
In case of a tie in any game in any match in the final step 2-6 a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.
