Gold for Korea, silver and bronze for Malaysia and Singapore in women's Team event at Asian Championships

Hong Kong Bowling City in Hong Kong, China (July 4-12, 2008)

 The Korean women won their third gold medal in the 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships when they captured the title in the five-player team event Wednesday morning at Hong Kong Bowling City.

2008ASCWomenTeamKOR.jpg The Koreans started the day with a 900-series, the lowest of all nine teams, to hand the lead to Malaysia on a silver plate. The Koreans rebounded in champion's style with 1159 and 1095 to put the gold medal out of reach for the other teams.

Choi Jin-A, Jeon Eun-Hee, Gang Hye-Eun, Gye Min-Young, Kim Yeau-Jin and Hwang Sun-Ok finished with 6463 six game total or an average of 215.43.

2008ASCWomenTeamMAS.jpg Malaysians Esther Cheah, Wendy Chai, Siti Safiyah Amirah, Zandra Aziela, Shalin Zulkifli and newcomer Sin Li Jane slipped to third behind a 929 in game #2 but beat out Singapore in the final game 1025 to 983 to secure the silver medal with 6200 (206.67).

2008ASCWomenTeamSIN.jpg Singaporeans Amanda Ng, Bernice Lim, Cherie Tan, Jasmine Yeung Nathan, Jazreel Tan and Sabrina Lim earned the bronze medal with 6186 (206.20).

2008ASCWomenTeamTPE.jpg The spinners from Chinese Taipei, Chien Hsiu-Lan, Liang Ya-Ping, Wang Yu-Ling, Pan Yu-Fen, Huang Chiung-Yao and Tang Ya-Chun were the second-best team on the long oil pattern, just 17 pins behind Korea, to leap into fourth place with 6072 pinfall total and an average of 202.40.

2008AsCWomenAllEventsTop3.jpg The Koreans added gold medal No. 4 when they finished 1-5 and 7th in All Events. Jeon Eun-Hee (center) won gold with 5502, an average of 229.25 on dual lane condition. Choi Jin-A (left) was second with 5397, followed by Kim Yeau-Jin (right) with 5389.

Jin-A was the best player on short oil with an average of 246.67 over twelve games while fifth-placed Gye Min-Young was the No. 1 on long oil averaging 224.08. All Events champ Eun-Hee averaged 241.25 on short and 217.25 on long oil.

Esther Cheah, Malaysia, was the best of the rest in sixth place with 5253. Joining the Koreans in the Masters finals on Thursday and Friday are four Malaysians, two players from Singapore and one each from Japan, Chinese Taipei, China and the Philippines.
