King rules Hong Kong, leads the Philippines to the men's Trios title in Asian Championships

2008AsCFrederickOngChesterKingRaoulMiranda.jpg Starting the day just one pin off the lead Frederick Ong, Chester King and Raoul Miranda (l-r) flew past their opponents en route to claim the gold medal in the men's Trios event at the Hong Kong Asian Championships.

2008AsCChesterKing1660.jpg The three Filipinos posted games of 711, 780 and 706 on the short oil condition at Hong Kong Bowling City for 2197 3-game total and 4193 overall, an average of 232.94.

King (pictured right) had the best day of his career today. He set a new Asian Championships record earlier this morning in the men's team event, also on short oil, with 813 (290, 267 and 256) and added 279, 289 and 279 (847) for 1660 six-game total or an average of 276.67.

Miranda added 713 and Ong contributed 637. King's six-game total in Trios was 1535 or an average of 255.83.

2008AsCAdrianAngAaronKongMohdNurAiman.jpg Trailing the Philippines by 276 pins were the overnight leaders from Malaysia. Adrian Ang, Aaron Kong and Mohd Nur Aiman (left, l-r) had games of 633, 696 and 591 to secure the silver medal with 3917 pinfall total (217.61).

2008AsCJasonYeongNathanEugeneLowShaunNg.jpg Jason Yeong Nathan, Eugene Low and Shaun Ng from Singapore (right, l-r) started the day in fifth position and leaped two spots to earn the bronze medal behind games of 689, 638 and 703 and 3898 pinfall total (216.56).

The second Malaysian trio with Daniel Lim, Alex Liew and Zulmazran Zulkifli came up strong in the final game (714) but had to settle for fourth place with 3870 (215-00), just 28 pins off the top 3.

2008AsCRaoulMiranda.jpg With the final three games in the Team event to go on Wednesday, King and Miranda (pictured left) lead the field of 106 players from 19 countries in All Events. King rocketed from 17th to first place today to sit in the driver's seat with 4886 21-game total or an average of 232.67.

2007KSAIOMubarakAlMuraikhi.jpg Miranda, who led after 15 games yesterday, is already 127 pins behind in second place with 4759 (226.62). Mubarak Al Muraikhi (right) from Qatar, who overtook the lead this morning after the team event, slipped to third with 4711 (224.33).

King is almost 200 pins ahead of Hussain Al-Suwaidi, who is fourth with 4689 (223.29). The men return on Wednesday at 2pm for the final 3-game block in the team event. The top 16 in All Events will advance to the Masters, which will conclude the Hong Kong Asian Championships on Thursday on Friday.
