Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong lead men's Trios event at halfway point

With the first three games on long oil in the books, Malaysia, Philippines and Hong Kong hold the top spots in the men's Trios event in the 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong, China.
Adrian Ang, Aaron Kong and Mohd Nur Aiman (left, l-r) rolled games of 702, 680 and 615 to lead the 35 trios with 1997 3-game total and an average of 221.89. Kong led the way with 693, Aiman had 659 and Ang contributed 645.
Singles bronze medalist Raoul Miranda (center), Chester King (left) and Frederick Ong (right) started slowly with 638 but rebounded with 684 and 674 to land mere one pin off the lead in second place with 1996 (221.78).
Hong Kong's No. 1 Wu Siu Hong (center) teamed with Cyrus Cheung (left) and Eric Tseng (right), who won the gold medal in the doubles event on Sunday evening. The local favorites came out of the gates quickly with a 707 game, but slipped from first to third place after a 594 in game #2.
Hong Kong's boy group rebounded with a 679 in the last game for 1980 pinfall total, a 220 average, to narrow the gap to the top 2 teams to 17 and 16 pins, resp.
With only 17 pins separating the top 3 anything can happen, making tomorrow's second and final 3-game block on short oil promising to be an extra exciting round.
Trailing the top 3 by 110 pins to sit in fourth place is Egypt with Karim Elgewaily, Karim Sherifwho bowled the highest individual series today with 705, and Tarek Helmy, who checked in with 1870 and an average of 207.78.
Miranda (left), who had 699 today, overtook the lead in All Events after 15 of 24 games with 3472 pinfall total and an average of 231.47. Mubarak Al Muraikhi from Qatar is second with 3419, with Alex Liew, Malaysia, in third at 3323.
The men are done for today and will return on Tuesday for the second block at 6pm.
