Miller Fires 300 in Championship Match for First Senior Tour Title
06/27/08
Hugh Miller had his sights set on the championship from the opening Round of competition, "In qualifying I wanted to finish strong so I stepped up my focus to finish in the top eight." The 51 year old southpaw did so in a big way by rolling 12 consecutive strikes in the last game of qualifying to take the second seed position and securing a double bye into the Round of 16.
Miller's focus remained strong going 6-1 in match play en route to a championship showdown with 1999 PBA Senior Player of the Year Dale Eagle. "I knew (Dale) Eagle was going to be tough, and I was going to have to shoot a big game, so I knew I had to strike a lot."
"My last win was in 2002, and that was a regular tour event. I haven't even won a regional since 2004." Ending an extensive title drought Miller added "Every few years things just come together for me."
When asked how comfortable he was on the lanes, Miller replied, "In Jackson I finished second, but I left a couple opens in the championship match, so I was looking to redeem myself and I stayed focused. I got myself into a good level of concentration in the championship match. I got a lucky break the first ball in the 10th frame, I gave the ball away a little, but the left lane was hooking more so it came back to strike."
Miller finished the tenth with two more strikes, winning his first career PBA Senior Tour title in style, bowling a perfect game in the championship match. What's next for the Senior Tour's newest champion? "My goal now is to win again as soon as possible."

300 Game - Brian Brazeau
After the completion of qualifying rounds of the PBA Senior Epicenter Classic, Ross Packard, San Jose, Calif., has the lead with a total pin fall of 3783. Packard is no stranger to the top position. He has two PBA Senior Tour titles and an incredible 36 victories in PBA regional tournament competition.
With thousands of different bowling balls to choose from Packard needed just one for his entire 16 games of qualifying at the Epicenter Bowling Complex, which he had pulled from his car following the practice session on Monday. "The decision to bring that ball in was the correct decision for my game. It allowed me to stay in the same zone across the house" stated Packard.
Packard has only bowled in two events this season yet is currently ranked 9th on the PBA Senior Tour point list for 2008. With high finishes in the PBA Senior Tour majors of third in the USBC Senior Masters and 8th in the PBA Senior U.S. Open, he shows no signs of slowing down this week.
Along with other qualifiers in the top eight positions, Packard earns buys in the first two bracketed match play rounds. Bowlers in positions 17-32 will enter the first Round of match play Thursday at 9 a.m. PST. Winners move on to meet bowlers qualifying 9-16 at 11 a.m. while Packard and the rest of top eight players wait to enter the "Round of 16" beginning at 2 p.m.

Packard in the zone, takes the top spot after 16 games of qualifying
