2008 PBA Senior Tour #4

Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson, Ariz. United States (June 8-13, 2008)

USBCSeniorMastersLogo.jpg Despite having to deal with the affects of diabetes, 58-year-old amateur, Rod Tramp of Porterville, Calif., led first-round qualifying Monday in the United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters at Golden Pin Lanes.

Tramp rolled a 1,130 five-game total on games of 249, 185, 246, 236 and 214 to lead the 260-player field made up of Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour players as well as amateurs.

"I was getting very tired so I had to eat some candy to get my energy back in the second game," said Tramp. "The candy worked and I recovered the last three games."

Tramp, who finished ninth in the 2007 Senior Masters, was diagnosed with diabetes three years ago, a condition that has gotten progressively worse but is now under control.

"I have to take four insulin shots a day but I have to thank my doctors for getting it under control," said Tramp who is bowling in his second Senior Masters. "I'm just happy I can bowl competitively again."

Senior Masters qualifying continues with five-game blocks on Tuesday and Wednesday. The field will then be cut to the top 63 players who will join defending champion Tom Baker in the three-game, double-elimination match play round beginning Thursday morning.

Match play continues all day Thursday and Friday with the championship match scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on Friday. The Senior Masters winner will take home a $16,000 first prize.
