Hulsch leads Final Round 1 in 5th Columbia 300 Vienna Open

Tina Hulsch (left), Germany, led the first round of the finals in the 5th Columbia 300 Vienna Open at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria, with 1448 six-game total en route to lead the top 24 into the single-elimination best-of-three finals.
The top 24 will be seeded 9th through 32nd and meet the top 8 qualifiers, who earned one bye, in the Round of 32.
Hulsch, who won the women's rankings in the Vienna Open last year, had high games of 270, 254 and 245 for 1400 pinfall, an average of 233.33, and added 48 pins handicap for 1448.
The German national team member will be seeded 9th in the Round of 32 and bowls #24 Kirsten Penny (right), England.
Five men cracked the 1400-bar en route to earn No. 10-14 seeds. Pawel Bielski, Poland, averaged 239.50 for his six games to shoot 1437, the highest scratch total of all 60 finalists. Dominic Barrett (left), England, was third with 1432, followed by Yoan Alix, France (1429), Nikolay Ovchinnikovs, Latvia (1413) and Morten Levandovski, Denmark (1404).
Local favorites Thomas Gross and Thomas "Dynamite Harry Tybl (right), the European Doubles champions, advanced to the Round of 32 in 7th and 19th position. Gross will meet Arttu Sadeharju, Finland, while Tybl takes on Dennis Eklund, Sweden.
Marcus Berndt took the 24th and final qualifying post with 1310, an average of 218.33,
He will face his compatriot, qualifying leader Robert Andersson. No. 2 Stuart Williams, England bowls Vincent Cayez, France, and No. 3 Petteri Salonen, Finland bowls Mai Ginge-Jensen, Denmark.

Players seeded 9th through 68th bowled 6 games starting from scratch to cut to the top 24. Those 24 will be seeded 9-32 in the match play round of 32 and meet the top 8 qualifiers.
Match play rounds of 32, 16 and 8 are single-elimination, best-of-three games. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player vs. the second-lowest seeded player, etc.
The semi-finals and the championship match will be decided in one game. A major on the European Bowling Tour, bowlers will be competing for a top prize of 7.000 Euro ($9,930) and an overall prize fund of 60.530 Euro ($85,850).
