Mack and Voss crack top ten in Viernheim Open

Americans Tim Mack (left) and PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss (right) cracked the top ten in the qualifying of the 2nd Gutperle Viernheim Open 2006 at Bowling Center Viernheim, Germany.
Mack had high games of 258 and 243 en route to finish the six-game block with 1375 pins, an average of 229,17, to move into fifth place. After a slow start, Voss rolled games of 258, 242, 241, 231 and 202 for 1351 (225,17), good enough for seventh place.
Sandwiched between the Americans is former World Champion Mika Luoto (left) from Finland, who checked in with 1364 (227,33).
With 20 out of 29 qualifying squads in the books, Rainer Puisis (right) from Germany and former PWBA champion Liz Johnson, United States, continued to lead the field of 277 players with 1404 (234,00) and 1394, resp. Denis Bonnaire, France, sits in 58 position (last spot to advance) with 1233 or an average of 205,50.
Swede Robert Andersson, who won gold in Doubles at the Men's World Championships, hot the first 300-game of the tournament in the last game of the evening. His 1301 total was good enough for 19th place.
The 2nd Gutperle Viernheim Open 2006 presented by STORM is the 15th stop of the 2006 European Bowling Tour and one of its "Majors". With 100.000 Euro or more than US$125,000 total prize fund the Viernheim Open is the "richest event" on the EBT Tour for the second consecutive year. The winner will receive the huge 25.000 Euro first-place check (approx. $31,700).
Qualifying continues through Saturday, September 16, and concludes with the one-game 'Desperado Squad' at 12.30. The top 58 qualifying leaders plus the top 6 'Desperados' (seeded 59-64) will advance to the semi-final and bowl eight games starting from scratch to cut to the top 40 for the single-elimination best-of-three-games finals.
