Puerto Rico wins gold in Women's Team event in Colombia

2006CACSGWomensTeamPRC2.jpg Mariana Ayala, Miriam Ayala, Yoselin Leon, Sasha Luciano, Miriam Perez and Jessica Santiago rolled five 1000-plus games en route to capture the gold medal in the Women's Five-Player Team event at the 20th Central American and Caribbean Sports Games in Barranquilla, Colombia. The Puerto Ricans checked in with 6081 six-game total and an were the sole team with a 200-plus average (202,70) among the nine countries that participated at Tito's Bolo Club, the home of the Colombian Bowling Federation.

The women from the host country, Paola Gomez, Clara Juliana Guerrero, Diana Leal, Sara Vargas and Luz Leal, secured the silver medal with 5915 and an average of 197,17. Venezuela's Mariela Alarza, Inngellimar Contreras De Delany, Karen Lugo, Alicia and Karen Marcano, beat out Mexico for the bronze medal with a final 1089-game including a 268 by Karen Marcano. The Venezuelans finished with 5814 and an average of 193,80.

Mexico's Alejandra Avila, Maria Cornejo, Sandra Gongora, Adriana Ortega, Adriana Perez and Sayuri Yamada landed in fourth place at 5757 (191,90). Virginia Bello, Aumi Guerra, Annie Henrriquez, Paola Mendez and Paula Vilas started with a huge 1118-game, the highest team game of the competition, but had to settle for fifth place with 5748 pinfall total (191,60).
