This year the tournament took place in two locations – St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill., where the men competed and Bel-Air Bowl in Belleville, Ill., where the women competed.

This was the eighth tournament of the season for the Shocker men and women.

The McKendree Baker Challenge was held over two days. During the first day, each team bowled 24 Baker games and returned on day two to bowl 16 more for a total of 40 Baker games. After the completion of 40 games, the top eight teams based on total pinfall advanced to a best-of-three Baker game match-play bracket.

At the conclusion of the 40-game qualifying round, the Lady Shockers took the fourth place position with a total of 7,458 for the 40 games, advancing them to the match-play bracket.

The men's team advanced in third place with a total of 8,059 pins, just 19 pins behind first place.

"Our team enjoys the Baker format tremendously. This was a decent qualifying performance and a disappointing showing in match-play," said Head Coach Gordon Vadakin. "We will continue to improve."

The Shocker men were unable to defeat Davenport University during the first round of match play, losing 1-2. They tied with Newman University for fifth place.

During match-play, the women were able to capture a victory in their first match over Newman University, winning 2-0 (194-162, 241-232). They continued their winning streak by defeating Lindenwood University 2-0 (201-174, 225-199), moving them to the final round against the tournament host, McKendree University.

The WSU women swept the team in a 2-0 victory (211-182, 188-178), earning them a fourth consecutive win for the season.

"We struggled on Saturday, digging ourselves into a hole. We made some adjustments for Sunday and the team did a much better job of recognizing what was needed on that lane condition," Assistant Coach Mark Lewis said. "Our match-play performance was one of the best of the year."

The men and women will be back on the road in two weeks, as they will travel to the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. This will be the final tournament of the regular season for the Shockers.
