Wayne Webb beats Walter Ray Williams Jr. to win USBC Senior Masters

Captures his third career PBA Senior Tour major title in Lass Vegas

Webb defeated reigning PBA Player of the Year Walter Ray Williams Jr. (r.) of Ocala, Fla., 705-628, in the title match at the South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas and took home $16,000 for the victory. Williams reached the championship match by defeating top qualifier Peter Knopp of Bremen, Germany, 696-539.

Now he's one of four undefeated players in match play heading into the final day. Webb is joined in the winners bracket by Henry Gonzalez, Colorado Springs, Colo., Pete McCordic, Katy, Texas, and Germany's Peter Knopp (r.). The four players will hit the lanes again Friday at 9:15 a.m. PDT, just three wins away from the $16,000 top prize.

Top 63 join defending champion Dale Traber in double-elimination match play

2010PBAS06PeterKnopp_small.jpgPeter Knopp of Bremen, Germany, earned high qualifier honors Wednesday at the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Senior Masters. Knopp (pictured left), who was in fifth place after the second round, has a 15-game total of 3,296, an average of 219.7, at the South Point Hotel and Casino Bowling Center. He shot 1,095 in Round 3 and leads Roger Kossert of Lithia, Fla., by six pins. The top 63 players will join defending champion Dale Traber in double-elimination match play, which will take place Thursday and Friday.

Bob Handley maintains one-pin lead at USBC Senior Masters

Germany's Peter Knopp moves into fifth place

Handley has a 10-game total of 2,291, an average of 229.1. A day after shooting 1,171 in the opening round, Handley shot 1,120 to maintain his strong start. He leads Roger Kossert (r.) of Lithia, Fla., by one pin. All participants will return to South Point Bowling Center in Las Vegas for the final five-game block Wednesday.

Mark Williams plays two different shots to win 2010 PBA Senior U.S. Open

PBA Hall of Famer wins third senior title and first senior major

2010PBAS05MarkWilliams2_small.jpgPlaying two entirely different shots in the championship match, Professional Bowlers Association Hall of Famer Mark Williams (pictured) won the 2010 PBA Senior U.S. Open Friday at the Suncoast Bowling Center for his first major Senior Tour title. Using the same ball and playing the right lane from an extreme outside angle and the left lane much farther inside, Williams defeated reigning Senior Player of the Year Ron Mohr of Eagle, River, Alaska, 198-181, to also win his third career Senior Tour title.

Ron Mohr grinds through match to lead PBA Senior U.S. Open after 35 games

After bowling 35 games the past three days, which included nine games in the final qualifying round and eight games of round-robin match play Thursday, the 54-year-old Mohr leads with a 7,852 pinfall and a 6-2 match play record.

Dale Traber set to defend USBC Senior Masters title

2010PBASDaleTraber_small.jpgWith one game of qualifying remaining last year, Dale Traber's hopes of winning the USBC Senior Masters seemed bleak. Sitting outside the cut number, Traber, of Cedarburg, Wis., fired a 259 game to surge into the match-play bracket and from there, he made his way into the championship match. He avenged an earlier loss and defeated Ross Packard of San Jose, Calif., in consecutive matches, 720-691 and 673-622. Traber (pictured) will put that title on defense when the 2010 USBC Senior Masters begins on Monday, June 14 in Las Vegas.

Two-time winner Tom Baker leads after third round in PBA Senior U.S. Open

Field cut to top 57 for Thursday morning's final qualifying round

PBASeniorPotYTomBaker_small.jpgAveraging 234.6 in Wednesday's qualifying round, two-time PBA Senior U.S. Open winner Tom Baker (pictured) of King, N.C., emerged as the third round leader in the 2010 PBA Senior U.S. Open at the Suncoast Bowling Center. Baker had games of 257, 226, 227, 248, 236 and 214 to boost his 18-game overall pinfall to 4,043 (224.6 average). He holds a 40-pin lead over former PBA Tour player Don Moser of Murrieta, Calif., in second with 4,003. The field has been cut to 57 players.

Harry Sullins moves into second round lead in PBA Senior U.S. Open

In Tuesday’s second six-game block he bowled games of 203, 234, 242, 245, 236 and 233 to take a 71-pin lead over Steve Ferraro (r.) of Kingston, N.Y., in second with 2,675. The 226-player field will bowl one more six-game qualifying block Wednesday after which the field will be cut to the top 57 players.

Journeyman Bob Brady leads after first round in PBA Senior U.S. Open

Two-time defending champion Wayne Webb is in 10th place

The 58-year-old Brady, who returned to the Senior Tour last week after an 18-month break, had a 1,428 six-game pinfall with games of 259, 213, 264, 233, 224 and 235. He holds a 40-pin lead over Don Moser of Kentwood, Mich., in second with 1,388. Two-time defending champion Wayne Webb is in 10th with 1,318.

Don Sylvia wins his third career PBA Senior title in Northern California Classic

Muller of Gervais, Ore., 209-173, to win his third career Professional Bowlers Association Senior Tour title in the PBA Senior Northern California Classic at Harvest Park Bowl Wednesday. Sylvia, who won his last title in the Lake County Indiana Open in Hammond, Ind., three years ago, earned $8,000 while Muller, a non-titlist bowling in only his seventh Senior Tour event, won $4,500 as runner-up. The PBA Senior Tour now heads to Las Vegas, Nev., for back-to-back major championships.

In 2009 Webb successfully defended his Senior U.S. Open title by defeating Brian Voss, 214-188, in the championship match. In 2008 he defeated top qualifier Johnny Petraglia, 204-172, for his first PBA Senior Tour title.

2010PBAS03WalterRayWilliams_small.jpgRecently-crowned Professional Bowlers Association Player of the Year Walter Ray Williams Jr. (pictured) of Ocala, Fla., picked up where he left off at the conclusion of the 2009-10 Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour season in April by winning the Senior Miller High Life Classic Wednesday at George Pappas Victory Lanes. Making his PBA Senior Tour debut, Williams, the PBA Tour's all-time leader in career titles with 47, notched his first Senior Tour win by defeating Keith Sharp of Orlando, Fla., 267-245 in the championship match.

The win gave Webb his third career Senior Tour title to go along with his 2008 and 2009 Senior U.S. Open titles, and came after finishing second in last week's season-opening Senior Dayton Classic. Several Senior Tour scoring records were broken in the the PBA Senior Columbus Open including the most 300 games in a tournament with nineteen.

Mohr had a record 16-game overall pinfall of 4,243 after Monday's second qualifying round for a 265.1 average. The 134-player field has been cut to the top 32 players who will advance to best-of-five match play beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. Eastern.
