Asian Indoor Games

Korea's Jeon Eun-Hee, Gang Hye-Eun, Hwang Sun-Ok and Son Yun-Hee and Hussain Al-Suwaidi, Sayed Ibrahim, Shaker Al-Hassan and Naif Oqab, UAE, swept the gold medals in Singles, Doubles and Team in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. In the women's 4-player team title match the Koreans flew past Japan, 895-696, to win the third gold medal in as many events. In the men's title match, the Arabs defeated Malaysia, 829-788, to secure their third gold medal in the Games. 

The women from Korea and the men from Malaysia set the pace as the 4-player team event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games has reached the halfway point Thursday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. The Koreans felled 2593 pins, an average of 216.08, while the Malaysians totaled 2763 (230.25). The 12 women's teams and the 18 men's teams will return on Friday for the second 3-game block on short oil. The top 4 teams with the highest six-game total in each division will advance to the semifinals.

Asian Indoor Games Singles champion Son Yun-Hee teamed with Jeon Eun-Heeto win the second gold medal for Korea in the Women's Doubles event Wednesday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. Son/Jeon, both members of the Korean quintet which has won the gold medal in the 5-player team event at the Women's World Championships in Las Vegas this summer, defetaed Fatin Syazliana and Sin Li Jan, Malaysia, in the title match, 432-393.

Naif Oqab and Hussain Al-Suwaidi earned the No. 1 seed for the Doubles finals in the 3rd Asian Indoor Games with a 46-28 win in roll off over Choi Bok-Eum and Kim Tae-Young. The Arabs met the Koreans once again in the title match and captured the gold medal with a 431-430 victory. Choi/Kim received the silver medal. Ryan Lalisang/Hengky Susanto, Indonesia, and Eric Tseng/Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, shared the bronze medal.

Naif Oqab, the lowest seed in the 8-player Men's Singles finals, cruised to victory in the opening bowling event of the 3rd Asian Indoor Games Sunday at Saigon Superbowl in Ho Chih Minh City, Vietnam. The Arab flew past qualifying leader Jang Dong-Chul, Korea, in the quarterfinal, 279-183, then edged No. 4 seed, Biboy Rivera, 219-194, Philippines, in the semis and took the gold medal in the title match against No. 6 seed, Choi Bok-Eum, Korea, by three pins, 222-219.

The Korean men's team, which barely made the cut to the finals in fourth position, climbed the ladder to win the gold medal in the men's four-player team event at the Macau 2nd Asian Indoor Games. Choi Bok Eum, Kim Hyun Suk, Kim Kwang Wook and Park Min Su ousted No. 1 seeded Japan in the semi-finals, 830-766, and went on to defeat the No. 2 seed, Qatar with Qatar Mubarak Al Muraikhi, Fahid Al-Emadi, Abdulla Al-Qattan and Saeed Al-Hajri, 922-829, in the title match. Qatar received the silver medal while Japan and Thailand shared the bronze.

The Korean four-player team flew past the Chinese women, 957-833, in the title match of the four-player team event to win the third gold medal in as many events in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games at COTAI International Sports Complex in Macau, China. Gang Hye Eun led the team with 260 and was followed by Gye Min Young (246), Choi Jin A (237) and Kim Yeau Jin (214). Chen Dongdong, Wu Suqin, Zhang Yuhong, Yang Suling received the silver medal. The teams from Japan (842-764 vs. Korea) and Malaysia (793-720 vs. China) shared the bronze medal.

The Korean bowlers continued to dominate the Macau 2nd Asian Indoor Games bowling competition when they captured the gold and silver medal in women's doubles. Gye Min Young, who led in singles after qualifying but walked away empty-handed, and Gang Hye Eun, seeded third, defeated their compatriots, singles champion Choi Jin A and Kim Yeau Jin, the No. 1 seeds, in the title match, 391-381. The duos from China (front row) Chen Dongdong/Wu Suqin and Zhang Yuhong/Yang Suling shared the bronze medal.

The men's doubles titles in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games at COTAI International Sports Complex in Macau, China was decided between the two top-seeded teams. No. 2 seeded Choi Bok Eum and Park Min Su, Korea, saved their best fort he last match and flew past No. 1 seeded Somjed Kusonpithak and Yannaphon Larp-apharat, Thailand, 521-416, to win the second gold medal for Korea in the third event.

Third-seeded Choi Jin-A defeated No. 2 Zatil Iman, Malaysia, 214-191, to capture the gold medal for Korea in Women's Singles in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games at COTAI International Sports Complex in Macau, China. Hakura Matsuda, Japan, and Yang Suling, China, who lost in the semi-final matches, shared the bronze medal.  The competition will continue with the men's and women's doubles on Monday and Tuesday.

Nayef Eqab Alabadla defeated two Koreans, No. 1 seed Choi Bok Eum and No. 2 seed Kim Hyun Suk, en route to win the gold medal in men's singles in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games at COTAI International Sports Complex in Macau, China. Hyun Suk earned the silver medal while Bok Eum and Khaled Al-Dubyyan, Kuwait, shared the bronte medal. The top 8 players after six games on the short-oil pattern advanced to the single elimination finals.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has invited its 45 National Olympic Committee (NOC) members to the 2nd Asian Indoor Games. The Games will be staged from October 26 through November 3, 2007 in Macau, China and feature 19 sports including two demonstration sports. Tenpin bowling is a medal sport featuring three disciplines, Singles, Doubles and Four-Player Teams. The bowling competition will be held in a 24-lane bowling center in the COTAI International Sports Complex in Macau from Oct. 27 through Nov. 2.
