Jansson, Haandrikman end 22nd European Youth Championships with victory in Masters

2009EYCMattiasJanssonCarmenHandrickmann_small.jpgMattias Jansson from Sweden and Dutch Carmen Haandrikman won the gold medal in the Boys and Girls Masters competition to end the 22nd European Youth Championships Easter Sunday at Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmo, Sweden. In the best-of-three games boys finale, Jansson followed in the footprints of his father Raymond Jansson (1984 EYC champion) when he made quick work of Singles champion and All Events silver medalist, Arturs Levikins, Latvia, 225-189 and 200-153. Haandrikman swept Jansson's team mate All Events champion Elin Adolfsson, 238-204 and 222-174 to wrap up the girls title.

Top seeded Levikins, Persson cruise to the Boys and Girls Singles title in Malmo

 The title matches of the Girls and Boys Singles competition at the 22nd European Youth Championships in Malmo, Sweden, featured the No. 1 seed vs. the No. 2 seed, and both top seeds cruised to the title with big games. In the Girls finale, Joline Persson Planefors, Sweden, flew past Chantal Jacobs, Netherlands, 255-203, to easily win the gold medal. Arturs Levikins, Latvia, fired a 279 in the semis, then edged equally tough Mik Stampe, Denmark, in the boys title match, 266-254.

Swedish girls continue to dominate in 22nd European Youth Championships

Persson earns top seed for Singles finals, Adolfsson wins gold in All Events

Joline Persson Planefors, Sweden, earned the No. 1 seed for the Girls Singles finals by winning the six-game preliminaries with 1314 pinfall total and an average of 219.00. Her team mate Elin Adolfsson grabbed the fourth and final spot with 1279 en route to win the gold medal in All Events. The Swedes will meet in the semifinals while No. 2 seed, Chantal Jacobs (1299), Netherlands, takes on Polina Kosyakova (1292), Russia.

Arturs Levikins earns the No. 1 seed for the Boys Singles finals in Malmo

2009EYCMikStampe_small.jpgLatvian Arturs Levikins had games of 205, 236, 219, 201, 276 and 246 to lead the 108-player field in the Boys Singles event in the 22nd European Youth Championships in Malmo, Sweden with 1383 pinfall total and an average of 230.50. Joining Levikins in the finals on Saturday are Mik Stampe, Denmark, Johan Helldén, Sweden, and Perttu Jussila, Finland. Stampe (pictured) won the gold medal in All Events, Levikins took the silver medal and Dennis Vrabac, Sweden,received bronze.

Finnish girls and Greek boys come from behind to win team gold European Youth Championships

2009EYCFinlandGirls_small.jpg2009EYCGreeceBoys_small.jpgBoth No. 4 qualifiers, the Finnish girls and the Greek boys, cruised to the title in the 4-player team event in the 22nd European Youth Championships Thursday evening at Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmo, Sweden. Finland (l.) defeated No. 3 Israel in the girls' final, 790-759, to win the gold medal. On the boys side, Greece (r.) topped the Swedish boys, seeded second, 800-775.

Denmark earns the top seed for Boys Team finals at 22nd European Youth Championships

Overnight leader Denmark with Anders Lousdal, Mik Stampe, Carsten W. Hansen and Mads Hedegaard held on to the lead in the second 3-game block of the Boys Team event en route to grab the No. 1 seed for today's finals. The Danes added 2508 to the 2561 from yesterday to win the preliminaries with 5069 pinfall total and an average of 211.21. Sweden jumped from fifth to second in the last game, with Latvia in third and Greece in fourth place.

Swedish girls target for second gold medal at 22nd European Youth Championships

The girls from the host country Sweden target for the second gold medal in as many events in the 4-player team event in the 22nd European Youth Championships. Starting the second 3-game block in second place, Elin Adolfsson, Isabell Hultin, Joline Persson Planefors and Sandra Andersson were the only team which averaged over 200 en route to earn the No. 1 seed for the finals later today. The Swedes, who won gold and bronze in Doubles on Tuesday, sled the field of 14 countries with 4868 pinfall total and an average of 202.83. The No. 1 seed Sweden meets the No. 4 qualifier Finland and the No. 2 seed England takes on No. 3 Israel.

Danish boys in familiar position after three games in EYC team event

2009EYCLogo_small.jpgAnders Lousdal and Mik Stampe from Denmark, who had to settle for the bronze medal after leading the Doubles preliminaries with record performance, teamed with Carsten W. Hansen and Mads Hedegaard to take the lead in the Boys 4-player team event at the 22nd European Youth Championships after 3 of 6 games. The Danes had games of 862, 790 and 909 to lead the field of 24 countries with 2561 pinfall total and an average of 213.42. The Latvian team was second with 2505, with Sweden in third 2498 and Greece in fourth 2430. Evangelos Krizinis, Greece, rolled the field-best 721 series.

English girls lead Team event at halfway point in 22nd European Youth Championships

14 girls teams took on the lanes at Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmo, Sweden, on Wednesday morning for the first three of six games in the 4-player Team event in the 22nd European Youth Championships. England's Danielle Hopcroft, Katrina MacIver, Laura Ellis and Nikki Beard rolled games of 885, 796 and 786 to take the lead with 2467 pinfall total and an average of 205.58. Hopcroft led the team with the field-best 675 series, or an average of 225.00. The top four teams after tomorrow's second block will battle it out for the medals on Thursday evening.

Swedish girls and English boys start 22nd European Youth Championships with victory in Doubles

The top seeded Swedish girls defeated Israel's Mor Dayan and Liat Vizenfeld, seeded 3rd, in the title match, 474-400. The English boys, the No. 2 seeds, secured the title with a 462-434 win over 4th seeded Marcel Obst and Steven Wiersema from Germany.

Swedish girls 1,2 after Doubles preliminaries in 22nd European Youth Championships

The girls from the host country Sweden, Elin Adolfsson/Isabell Hultin and Joline Persson Planefors/Sandra Andersson finished the six-game preliminaries in the Doubles competition of the 22nd European Youth Championships in first and second place. They will Joining the Swedes in the semifinals are No. 3 Liat Vizenfeld/Mor Dayan from Israel and No. 4 Daria Pająk/Magda Stępien from Poland.

Bowling in the third and last squad, Anders Lousda and Mik Stampe (pictured left, l-r) combined for 2671 six-game total en route to earn the No. 1 seed for Tuesday's finals, while team mate Mads Hedegaard posted the first 300 game of the championships.Joining the Danes in the finals are doubles from England, Sweden and Germany.

Europe's top youth bowlers meet in Malmo, Sweden for their annual championship

 It's Easter time and Europe's top boys and girls bowlers are getting ready to start the 22nd annual European Youth Championships. The 7-day competition runs from April 6-12 at Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmo, Sweden. The EYC 2009 are divided in two divisions - boys and girls. Each team consists of maximum four male and four female players, who will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in Singles, Doubles, Teams, All Events and Masters. 30 ETBF member federations have conformed to participate.

Huiden, Jussila win Girls and Boys Masters title in 21st European Youth Championships

2008EYCMastersChampionsHuidenJussila_small.jpg Stephanie Huijden defeated five opponents including defending champion Bianca Wiekeraad, both Netherlands, and the top 3 from All Events en route to claim the Girls Masters title in 21st European Youth Championships. In the title match, Huijden topped No. 3 seed, Emma Sandblom, Sweden, 221-212 in the deciding game, for a two-games-to-one victory. In the boys title match, No. 11 Perttu Jussila, Finland swept No. 2 Arturs Levikins, Latvia, who rolled a perfect game in Round Two, 2-0. After a 209-177 in game #1, Jussila cruised to the title with a 279-254 strike fest.

Dutch Girls sweep Team and All Events gold in European Youth Championships

2008EYCLogo_small.jpg The Dutch "Meisjes" girls Bianca Wiekeraad, Ilona De Kuijer, Chantal Jacobs, Stephanie Huijden and Carmen Haandrikman defended the team title at the 21st European Youth Championships with 6288 six-game total and an average of 209.60. England (6130) was second and Sweden (6104) third. Carmen Haandrikman felled 3978 pins over 18 games (Doubles, Trios and Team) to win the gold medal in All Events with a 221 average. Diana Zavjalova, Latvia, took the silver medal with 3886, while Emma Sandblom beat out Joline Planefors Persson, both Sweden, fort he bronze due to the higher last game after both tied at 3850. Not a very sportsman-like rule from the ETBF, especially in youth bowling.

Gold for Norway and Denmark in Boys Division at European Youth Championships

2008EYCLogo_small.jpg Norwegians Christer Jakobsen, Alexander Halvorsen, Kim Andrè H Hovde, Simen S Jensen and Andrè L Hansen claimed the gold medal in the Boys 5-player team event of the 21st European Youth Championships with 6729 six-game total (224.30). Silver went to Finland (6528) and Sweden (6442) took the bronze. Thomas Larsen, Denmark averaged 228.06 for 18 games (4105) to win the title in All Events. Arturs Levikins, Latvia, finished second with 4089 and Riku-Petteri Kivelä, Finland, third with 4082.

Swedish girls soar to victory in Trios event at 21st European Youth Championships

The Swedes, who started the second 3-game block on Thursday in fourth place, 113 pins off the pace for the gold medal, tossed games of 650, 631 and 689 (1970) to win the title with 3883 six-game total, an average of 215.72. Dutch Bianca Wiekeraad, Ilona De Kuijer and Stephanie Huijden earned silver with 3774, while Israel with Roni Aharonovich, Mor Dayan and Liat Vizenfeld took bronze with 3728.

Sweden wins second gold in Boys Trios in European Youth Championships

2008EYCLogo_small.jpg Doubles champion Joachim Karlsson and Kristoffer Hagelberg teamed with Johan Helldén to win the second gold medal for Sweden in the Boys Trios event of the 21st European Youth Championships at Tali Bowl in Helsinki, Finland. The Swedes, who were in second place after the first 3-game block (2013) overtook previous leader Denmark with a 1903 series to cruise to the title with 3916 pinfall total and an average of 217.56. Riku-Petteri Kivelä, Perttu Jussila and 2Tony Ranta, Finland, took the silver with 3890, while Danes Anders Lousdal, Kasper Walther and Thomas Larsen secured the bronze medal with 3857.

Doubles champion Joachim Karlsson and Kristoffer Hagelberg teamed with Johan Helldén to sit in second place with 2013 (223.67). Jord van Weeren, Xandel van Mazijk and Santino Jas, Netherlands, are a distant third with 1932.

Trailing the Israelis by 81 pins to sit in second place was Germany with Shirley Lazar, Cynthia Kleyda and Melanie Birlinger (1949). Third place belongs to the host country, Finland. with 1917.
