Robert Andersson (r.), Sweden, led fellow World Doubles Champion Martin Larsen in Squad 13 by 4 pins, 1444 to 1440, en route to move into 11th and 1wth place in the overall qualifying standings.

Anthony Pepe shoots into qualifying lead in 2010 Brunswick Euro Challenge

Kimmo Lehtonen and defending champion Mike Fagan achieve perfection

Pepe had the front 11 in the first and fifth game but failed to roll the tournament's first 300. Kimmo Lehtonen (r.) accomplished the feat in the first game of Squad 11 and defending champion, Mike Fagan, United States, matched the feat five games later.

Adrian Ang was the best of three Malaysians atop Squad 9 with 1479 to remain in third position. Nico Joris, Belgium, leads the field since Squad 3 with 1518 six-game total and an average of 253.00.

Adrian Ang, Malaysia, topped Bohn by 19 pins for the squad lead to overtake 3rd place. Nico Joris, Belgium, held on to the lead with 1518.

Shoots 1495 series to move into second place in qualifying

The French international came out of the gates quickly with 221 followed by 268 and 236 for 725 after three games. Alix closed out his series with 255, 259 and 256 to jump into second place in the overall qualifying standings with 1495. Nico Joris (r.) continued to lead with 1518.

Previous leader Mohamade Sarmadi slipped to 3rd place with 1402. Marie Gauton, both France, led Squad 4 with 1397 to sit in 4th place. Rounding out the top 6 were Vincent Cayez, France (1389), and Jean Marc Lebon, Belgium (1376).

Sarmadi started Squad 2 on Saturday afternoon at Le Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin, France, with five games between 223 and 236 and finished with 258 for 1402 pinfall total and an average of 233.67. The top 6 players from the first weekend including Sunday's extra Squad 3b and Squads 4 and 5 will automatically advance to the finals if the don't finish among the top 52 qualifiers.

2010EBT05UlfBolley2_small.jpgFormer world champion Ulf Bolleby, Sweden, took the early lead in the 2010 Brunswick Euro Challenge Friday at Le Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin, France. Bolleby posted a 1355 six-game total and an average of 225.83. Bolleby started his series with 258, the highest game of the tournament thus far, and added 227, 199, 188, 236 and 247. Mark Jacobs, Netherlands, was second with 1296. Qualifying continues on Saturday with Squads 2 and 3 at 1pm and 5pm CET.

As of today 471 players from 37 countries have registered for the event which offers total prize fund of 90.000 Euro. Barrett received 3.000 Euro for second place, while Leal earned 2.000 Euro for third place.

Larsen had high games of 247 (2) and a low game of 203 for 1362 to move into second place in the overall standings, just four pins behind qualifying leader Luz Adriana Leal from Colombia (1366). Peder Grimsen (r.), Sweden, rolled the tournament's first 300 game.

Leal is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday. Dominic Barrett (r.), England, one of the hottest players on the 2010 European Bowling Tour, earned his berth into the finals by winning squad 4 with 1307.

French Yoan Alix, Marilyn Planchard set the pace in Catalonia Open

2010EBT04YoanAlix_small.jpgYoan Alix (left) and Marilyn Planchard, both France led the second qualifying squad in the Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa Wednesday at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona. Alix finished his six-game series with a 287, the highest game of the tournament thus far, for 1349 (224.83) to overtake the lead in qualifying. However, as one of the 12 squad leaders Alix is automatically qualified for the finals. Qualifying runs through Saturday evening, Feb. 27, with the final Squad 12 scheduled for 9 p.m. local time.

8th Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa is underway in Barcelona

2010EBT04Logo_small.jpg 20 bowlers - 16 men and 4 women - took to the lanes at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday night to kick off the 8th Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa. Barcelona is the capital city of Catalonia, one of the seventeen Autonomous Communities of the Kingdom of Spain. None of the 20 players averaged 200. Axel GuimĂł, Catalonia, led Squad 1 with 1184 or an average of 197.33 and is automatically qualified for the finals on Sunday. The tournament is the fourth stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour.

Defeats three Swedes in come-from-behind victory

In the title match against No. 1 seed Tobias Karlsson (left), Sweden, Barrett posted games of 277-207 and 253-198 to easily win the match, 530-405, and to claim his third EBT title. 14th placed Diana Zavjalova, Latvia, won the women's ranking in Wroclaw.

Barrett, who fell to Eklund in the title match of the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament last Sunday, overtook the lead in in Squad 9 with 1482 and an average of 247.00. Two Squads later, Eklund rolled 1432 to move into second place.

Jouni Helminen, Finland, led Squad 7 on Thursday evening with 1369 to jump into 6th place in the overall qualifying standings. Tomasz Janicki, Poland, led Squad 5 with 1348 en route to overtake 8th place. Polish international Daria PajÄ…k led Squad 6 with 1324 including 48 pins handicap, good for 10th place.
