YES Fund partners with New York State USBC Association

New York association has donated $37,000 toward the project

YESLogo_small.jpg The New York State United States Bowling Congress Association has announced it will partner with the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund to provide grants to schools in New York. The grants, which will be in the form of in-school bowling grants and high school assistance grants, will be awarded by the YES Fund to schools in New York. The New York association has donated $37,000 toward the project.

The Bowling Foundation, YES Fund help high school team after fire

BowlingFoundationLogo_small.jpgA fire in the early hours of Dec. 24 destroyed Charlie's Country Fun bowling center in Biggsville, Ill. The 10-lane center, which opened in 1978, was the home to the West Central High School bowling team. The Bowling Foundation and the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund already have sent the team new bowling balls to help offset the loss.

Two high school grants awarded through YES Fund

YESLogo_small.jpg Walt Whitman High School in Huntington Station, N.Y., and the Lee County, Fla., school district have each been selected to receive $2,500 grants through the High School Grant Program of the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund. The program, administered by the International Bowling Campus Youth Development team, provides grants for up to four high school programs annually. With grants to Lee County schools and Walt Whitman High School, the High School Grant Program has awarded its four grants for this year.

Zack Hattori sweeps Rachel Vaughn to win $64,000 Scholarship in Teen Masters

2011TMZackHattori_small.jpg2011TMRachelVaughn_small.jpgWith a double in the 10th frame, 18-year-old Zack Hattori (l.) of Las Vegas clinched the richest scholarship prize in bowling history to conclude the 14th annual Teen Masters bowling championships presented by Ebonite at Grand Central Terminal Thursday. Hattori defeated 16-year-old Rachel Vaughn (r.) of Port St. Lucie, Fla., 190-184 and 207-178, to win the best-of-two-game championship match and lock up a four-year, $64,000 scholarship package.

Greene, Hannon take titles at North Pointe $100,000 High School Singles Championships

2011NorthPointeTylorGreeneMelanieHannon_small.jpg Tylor Greene (l.) of Davidson, Mich., and Melanie Hannon (r.) of Buffalo, N.Y., claimed the top spots at the 2011 North Pointe High School Singles Championships and each took home a $15,000 scholarship. Greene defeated Jamie Robinson of Westerville, Ohio, 247-196, in the boys final to take home the title, while Hannon started off strong and pulled away on the girls side, outlasting Haley Rubin of Brandon, S.D., 212-181. They came out on top against 588 other top high school bowlers from across the country.

YES Fund welcomes High 5 Gear as a partner

YESLogo_small.jpg The Youth Education Services (YES) Fund expanded its partner base as custom shirt provider High 5 Gear is joining the program dedicated to youth bowling. "It's great to have High 5 Gear involved in the YES Fund partnership," International Bowling Campus Director of Youth Development Chad Murphy said. In addition to its YES Fund partnership, High 5 Gear is offering exclusive USBC Junior Gold Championships apparel for the 2011 event.

Crowe Star of Tomorrow Award winner, leads the list of 10 high school bowlers selected for the 2010-11 Dexter/United States Bowling Congress High School All-American Team. Each student-athlete receives a $1,000 scholarship and an All-America Team award, which will be presented at the 2011 USBC Junior Gold Championships in Las Vegas in July.

Ohio High School to receive grant through YES Fund program

YESLogo_small.jpg Bryan High School in Bryan, Ohio, which started a bowling program for the 2010-11 season, has been selected to receive a $2,500 grant through the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund High School Grant Program. The High School Grant Program provides assistance to bowling programs that have a financial need because of budget cuts or other changes, and to schools that request funding to start a new program. The program can award up to four $2,500 grants a year.

New S.E.T.S. program to help equip High School bowlers

USBCHighSchoolLogo.jpgHigh school teams now have access to top bowling equipment through a new grant program administered by the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund. The program allows entire high school teams to apply for new bowling gear. In order to qualify for the Students Equipped to Strike (S.E.T.S.) grant program, at least one member of the team must demonstrate an economic need for assistance.

High School events will be shown live on BOWL.com

USBCHighSchoolLogo.jpgFor the first time, a regular-season high school tournament will be broadcast live from start to finish on BOWL.com, the official website of the United States Bowling Congress. The 2011 Star City High School Open, will take place March 19-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. The North Pointe Insurance Group $100,000 High School Singles Championship Tournament on July 15-17 also has been added to the live streaming schedule.

YES Fund pilot program looking for new test centers

YESLogo_small.jpgThe Youth Education Services (YES) Fund has developed a new concept for youth leagues and wants bowling centers around the country to help test this exciting program designed to get kids into the sport. "Six months ago, the YES Fund team activated a small number of leagues to start the learning process," BPAA Director of Youth Chad Murphy said. "We received a lot of quality feedback and now are ready for the next step with more test partners."

YES Fund welcomes five new partners

YESLogo_small.jpgThe Youth Education Services (YES) Fund expanded its partner base as five recognized bowling industry organizations stepped forward to join the program dedicated to youth bowling. Kegel, Luby Publishing, International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA), Billiard and Bowling Institute of America (BBIA) and Bowlers Journal International are now official YES Fund partners after making significant contributions.

YES Fund partners assist high school bowling team following fire

YESLogo_small.jpgThe new Youth Education Services (YES) Fund will be sending a holiday gift to the high school bowling team in Rock Island, Ill. Every member of the team will receive new equipment from one of the YES Fund's founding partners Brunswick, Columbia 300, Ebonite, 900 Global, Hammer, Roto Grip, Storm and Track. In the early morning hours of December 21, fire tore through the Town & Country Bowl in Rock Island. The bowling center along with most of the high school team's equipment was destroyed.

YES Fund launches High School Bowling Grant Program

New industry program awards first grant and helps save a New Jersey team from budget cuts

YESLogo_small.jpgThe newly created Youth Education Services (YES) Fund made its first direct step in support of the YES mission to promote youth bowling with the announcement of a program designed to create and preserve high school bowling programs. To kick off the High School Grant Program, the YES Fund will award $2,500 to Middlesex High School in Middlesex, N.J., to help that 19-year-old bowling program continue in 2010-11.

High School Bowling continues to grow

NFHS survey shows 2.5 percent increase

USBCHighSchoolLogo.jpgParticipation in high school bowling programs saw a slight increase during the 2009-10 school season, according to the high school athletics participation survey conducted by the National Federation of State High School Associations. The NFHS survey found that 52,653 student-athletes participated in bowling programs in 4,886 schools last season, a 2.5 percent increase from the 2008-09 season. The NFHS has compiled a participation survey each year since 1971 based on numbers it receives from member associations.

Dexter Bowling to continue sponsorship of USBC High School All-American Team

Agreement includes sponsorship of the USBC Coach/Player Luncheon at ITC

DexterUSBCHSAllAmericanLogo_small.jpgDexter Bowling and the United States Bowling Congress have agreed on a partnership that will keep Dexter as the exclusive title sponsor of the USBC High School All-American Team. The three-year agreement also includes Dexter's sponsorship of the USBC Coach/Player Luncheon at the Intercollegiate Team Championships. Dexter has been the official sponsor of the USBC High School All-American Team since 2005-06. Dexter Bowling also will sponsor the USBC Coach/Player Luncheon at the ITC.

Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship recipients announced

Each of the five USBC bowlers will receive a $5,000 scholarship

USBCLogow_small.jpgFive students have been selected to receive a USBC Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarship based on their community service and academic achievements. Each of the USBC bowlers will receive a $5,000 scholarship. Four of the recipients are recent high school graduates, while the other is a first-year college student. The Earl Anthony Memorial Scholarships are presented in honor of legendary bowling professional Earl Anthony, one of the great ambassadors of the sport who was dedicated to helping youth bowlers.

2009-10 Dexter/USBC High School All-America Team named

200910DexterUSBCHSAALogo_small.jpgAndrew Koff of Miami, Fla., has been named to the 2009-10 Dexter/United States Bowling Congress High School All-America Team for the third consecutive season and is joined on this year's team by Megan Buja of Rockford, Ill., and Nicole Parkhurst of Utica, N.Y., who were named to the girls' team for the second consecutive season. Five boys and five girls have been selected for the honor since the 2005-06 school year. Each student-athlete will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Dexter/USBC All-American Team has familiar faces

Selection to the team is based on the student-athlete's bowling accomplishments from the current school year, academic achievement, letters of recommendation, extracurricular activities and community involvement, submitted essays and resumes. Five boys and five girls have been selected annually for the honor since the 2005-06 school year.

High School bowlers encourage peers to participate

Survey finds school team members active in other leagues, plan to stick with sport

USBCHighSchoolLogo.jpg As high school programs gear up for the new season, a recent survey by the United States Bowling Congress found bowling on a high school team is a positive experience that many high school bowlers would recommend to other students. Last fall, bowlers in the USBC High School Team Membership program were invited to complete an online survey regarding their bowling experiences.
